I've only been up the Cabot Trail once before. Yes, I've shot many weddings in Cape Breton but only during my own honeymoon (eleven years ago) did I get up on the trail.
This September I was in the Cape Breton Highlands as the wedding photographer for Brynn and Tim, entrepreneurs from the Halifax area getting married up at the Keltic Lodge on the Cabot Trail. The weather was stunning and, although the leaves weren't in full colour, they were beginning to change. As soon as I arrived, I found the location for the reception, and I was in love....in fact I shot that scene that very moment and that's the first photo in this post. The next image is once the party got started.
Then it was wedding day and the sun was out, and although a wee bit windy, it was a perfect late September day for up in the Highlands. Just look at the view.
Then we took off on our bikes down the long private drive down the hill to Ingonish Beach. I couldn't help fire off some shots of them on the way down and on the way back.
I also tried my hand at an animated gif, a string of photos looping together into a crude animation. They are a little silly and really have no purpose other than to give a little life to a moment on a blog or via a text, but it's kinda cute and I like it. The series of photos was shot on the beach just down the hill from the Keltic Lodge in the dying moments of the sun. Every photo on it's own is a winner...but togtether they come alive.
Then I looked over while the parents were enjoying their meals to see this little guy getting his fill at the kids' candy table. At least the next little fella grabbed th jars and took them back to his seat.
The next day, after I had brunch with the family, I took a very long awaited ride though the Cabot trail on my Classic Harley Davidson, a 1981 FLH. This is a photo from my Instagram account from that ride. I loved every moment of that weekend.
