Frequently Asked Questions

Q
Where will my photo session take place?
A

I have a 700 sq ft photography studio with many backdrops, lights and a very large cove wall - so I’m able to do many styles of photos there.  ‘On Location’ sessions take place at the location of your choice.  Location possibilities are endless in HRM and its beautiful surrounding areas.  We’ll brainstorm together and come up with some ideas depending on what best suits your personality and taste.

Looking to have relaxed natural outdoor portraits?  There are many picturesque parks and areas to choose from.  We can even have outdoor sessions in your own backyard or while on a walk.  Perhaps you prefer an urban setting?  The Halifax region and Nova Scotia as a whole has some fun locations to accommodate your style!

Many folks choose to have their photojournalistic lifestyle sessions at their home where their true personalities can shine through in a comfortable and relaxed environment.  I can also capture your child’s room or nursery - or another area where your child spends time playing.  Please note that I may (likely) move around a couple pieces of furniture in order to achieve the best light possible for your custom photography session.

Q
Can you retouch skin imperfections such as acne, scars and wrinkles?
A

Absolutely!  I provide this service to my clients with every print ordered. However, keep in mind that I won’t retouch these things unless I am asked to do so as it is important to me that I don’t inadvertently offend anyone.

Q
When will my photos be ready?
A

Typically, your wedding images will be available with a month or two.  But, for weddings, I’ll fire off some teasers the next to whet your appetite and so you have something to pop on Facebook.  If prints are ordered, I usually have them done in a week or two after I receive your selections.  The Italian Coffee Table books aren/‘t even started until January.  I always try to have them done sooner but being so busy in the summer and fall, and the deadline to have them into Italy being the first week of November, I just run out of time.

Q
Do you back-up your files?
A

Yup.  I backup every image as soon as it lands on my computer on a special backup system that is nearly fail-proof as it saves all my backups over 4 drives (it’s called a Drobo).  If one drive does fail, I have three others that would still be running.  However, if something catastrophic happens, such as a fire, I could lose everything.  This is why I give the disc of all the high res images.  This way, if anything does happen, I can be comforted in knowing the client will always have a copy as well.  In giving the disc to you, I am absolving myself of any responsibility for lost files so it would be in your best interest when you receive the disc to pop it on your computer and also make a backup disk. However, I haven’t erased a file in 3 years and now have 12 terabytes of space including the backup drives.

Q
How do I get a disc of all my high resolution originals?
A

I provide a handsomely printed disc with all the high resolution images for every job I do.  It’s part of the package.

Q
What’s the difference between high-resolution images and low-resolution ones?
A

Low-resolution images are the ones I send out in my teasers.  The colours are a little weaker and the quality is much lower.  They are no good for printing but beauties for e-mailing and Facebook.

High resolution images are sharp, full of detail and colour and will easily will print up to 11x14 images without any upscaling.

Q
Do you charge travel fees?
A

I do charge for travel if heading outside the HRM.  I charge $0.50 plus tax per km traveled.  If you are getting married in Mahone Bay, your travel fee will be $100.00 (100km there and 100km back).

Concerning lodging, if your event is late or far away, I’ll need to be put up for the night.  Now, I’m the coolest guy you know; I don’t need to stay in a hotel - it can be at your mom’s house (I’m 6’8” so no couches please).  What it comes down to is common sense.  If your event is 3 hours away and my services are scheduled to end at 10:00, I’ll want to say over.  If it ends at 6:00, I’ll head home.  I’ll be beat after 7 hours of shooting in the sun and a long, late drive simply isn’t safe.

Q
Do you bring a backup camera to the shoot?
A

Actually, I do and will be shooting with both cameras.  One is a Canon 5D Mk III and the other is a Canon 1Ds Mk III.  I also carry two flashes and 5 lenses to every shoot.

Q
What forms of payment do you accept?
A

I accept cheque, cash or bank draft.  Lately, many have been paying via e-mail interact through your banks website.  It’s quick and easy.  At this time, I do not accept credit card or debit card.
