Where will my photo session take place?

I have a 700 sq ft photography studio with many backdrops, lights and a very large cove wall - so I’m able to do many styles of photos there. ‘On Location’ sessions take place at the location of your choice. Location possibilities are endless in HRM and its beautiful surrounding areas. We’ll brainstorm together and come up with some ideas depending on what best suits your personality and taste.

Looking to have relaxed natural outdoor portraits? There are many picturesque parks and areas to choose from. We can even have outdoor sessions in your own backyard or while on a walk. Perhaps you prefer an urban setting? The Halifax region and Nova Scotia as a whole has some fun locations to accommodate your style!

Many folks choose to have their photojournalistic lifestyle sessions at their home where their true personalities can shine through in a comfortable and relaxed environment. I can also capture your child’s room or nursery - or another area where your child spends time playing. Please note that I may (likely) move around a couple pieces of furniture in order to achieve the best light possible for your custom photography session.

What should we wear?

It is best to wear simple clothes and solid colors that don’t distract from people in the photograph. But don’t be afraid to have kids wear fun, bright colours but patterns that don’t clash. You are also welcomed to have a couple of clothing changes for you and your little ones.

What style of photography do you use when shooting children?

I aim to capture kids being kids. I’ll make your little one feel at ease and as comfortable as possible so that I can capture their unique personality. Each session is built with the idea that sometimes it takes waiting and a little patience to get that perfect shot. My approach to photography creates a more accurate and memorable portrait of your child. I’ll also act a little silly to get the smiles.

When is the best time to schedule newborn photographs?

It’s best to photograph newborn babies before they are about 10 days old. Please be sure to book your newborn session before the baby is born. Since babies change quickly during their first year, consider having portraits again at 3-6 months, and again at 1 year as their true features and lovable personality really start to emerge.

Can you retouch skin imperfections such as acne, scars and wrinkles?

Absolutely! I provide this service to my clients with every print ordered. However, keep in mind that I won’t retouch these things unless I am asked to do so as it is important to me that I don’t inadvertently offend anyone.

What’s the process with the Italian Coffee Table Book?

Because I work hard to get the wedding photos done within the week of your wedding and with the fact that I book a couple weddings a week, I’m usually shooting a wedding as soon as I have the pictures from the last one done. I try to start the books in October but sometimes I can’t even get to them until it slows down late December. As it takes 2 days to do an average book and usually 20 or so books ordered, it’s literally a month and a half of just building books.

Now the process is usually I take 150 of my favorites and mandatory family shots and begin building the book. Once it’s completed, I’ll send you the pages to look over. Make sure you are happy with them. This is your chance to say, “Make page 5 look like page 12”, “Remove the photo of me in the top left corner of Page 17 and replace it with #845 from the disc” and “Zap that cold sore on page 21”. I’ll make all your changes and send them back to you for another look-over.

Once you sign off on the book, cover and parents book dust jackets, I’ll sent off to Italy. Turnaround time from there is usually between 2-3 weeks.

When will my photos be ready?

Typically, your images will be available with a week or two. As soon as I have them done, I’ll fire off some teasers to whet your appetite and so you have something to pop on Facebook. If prints are ordered, I usually have them done in a week or two after I receive your selections

Do you back-up your files?

Yup. I backup every image as soon as it lands on my computer on a special backup system that is nearly fail-proof as it saves all my backups over 4 drives (it’s called a Drobo). If one drive does fail, I have three others that would still be running. However, if something catastrophic happens, such as a fire, I could lose everything. This is why I give the disc of all the high res images. This way, if anything does happen, I can be comforted in knowing the client will always have a copy as well. In giving the disc to you, I am absolving myself of any responsibility for lost files so it would be in your best interest when you receive the disc to pop it on your computer and also make a backup disk. However, I haven’t erased a file in 3 years and now have 12 terabytes of space including the backup drives.

How do I get a disc of all my high resolution originals?

I provide a handsomely printed disc with all the high resolution images for every job I do. It’s part of the package.
