Wedding FAQ
How do I book a wedding?
Touch base on dates and ask many questions! Even if you aren’t 100% sure I’m the guy for you and are still in the decision making process, please still have me hold the date for you. This way, if I get a call for the date before you’ve finalized your plans, I’m reminded to touch base with you first instead of giving it away. To confirm any booking, all I ask as a retainer/deposit is $500 put towards your final bill, which is due on or before wedding day.
Aside from the Deposit, What else do I require once a wedding is booked?
I’d love to have a family shot list. Not only does it allow you to build a list that you can edit and adjust ahead of time instead of on the fly that day…but it also allows me to rewrite of for flow and efficiency, but also to catch any combos you may have missed. I do need to make sure these omissions are not intentional as they may simply be oversights.
Closer to the day, I'll need a detailed itinerary, with addresses and such. If I receive it a few weeks ahead of time, I'll have a chance to look it over and give you some suggestions if I see any areas that may need changes or clarification.
Do you have a second shooter?
No, I shoot alone and have shot 400+ weddings solo. Honestly, I like being solely accountable for your images and keeping your price as low as I’m able. I’m never concerned about getting wonderful images, even during the ‘getting ready’ part of the day as there are easy workarounds to make those images happen (fellas get ready a little earlier and I travel back and forth between the two). However, if any couple would rather me have a second photographer, I do have a wonderful photographer that I shoot really well with and I trust her work. Amanda Huska, if available, will shoot alongside me and her fee to do so is reasonable and then puts us in the same package price as many other paired shooters.
How are my images delivered?
All your images will be delivered via an online gallery and will be downloadable in full resolution and full size.
I try to have a teaser gallery of 75 or so photos to you the day after the wedding and the remaining collection about a month later…but more likely two….but never more than three.
How far will I travel for a wedding?
Without a fee, I’ll travel about 90 minutes away from Halifax. Outside that, I charge $0.50 per km travelled. So if I’m heading to Digby to shoot a wedding, being about 225km away I’m charging $225 plus tax (I do have to drive home…so 450 km travelled). That covers my gas and the fact that I’m nearly 5 hours in a car for your wedding.
If outside 300 km or so, I’d expect to be put up for the night at a hotel. If coverage is scheduled to be done early in the day, that wouldn’t be necessary…but if I’m scheduled to shoot late into the night, driving three hours after a full day of wedding shooting will surely see me asleep in a ditch. So if you book me into Cape Breton, Yarmouth, NB, PEI…expect about $500-$600 as a travel fee, covering travel and a hotel room. If you are looking for me to start at 9:00am, then expect me to need a hotel room the night before as well as I’m not willing to leave the house at 3:30am, sort of thing.
I don’t travel much further than a 5 hour drive in the summer. That puts me home about noon the following day, missing any opportunities for Sunday morning family shoots. And I certainly don’t fly in the summer. I shot a wedding once in Labrador on a Saturday, July 3, as much as I as I enjoyed shooting that wedding, did have to turn down Friday, July 2 and Sunday, July 4th weddings, and plenty of other calls for local weddings that Saturday.
Do I do destination weddings?
Yes I do. I’ve shot over 20 of them. t I do really enjoy shooting them and will give you wonderful images! I’ve shot many, can walk you through what you can expect at the resort when booking a destination wedding and will even sit in on meetings on location with the onsite coordinator.
For more information on Destination weddings, head to the photo gallery as I discuss rates, expectations, requirements, etc.
Are your rates the same all year?
Not at all. My rates are for ‘wedding-season’ Saturdays. However, if you’re looking for a wedding in April or November, I’ll move on those rates for sure. If you’re looking for a Friday, they will be lower and even more so for a Tuesday, sort of thing. I’m happy to get the job and be a part of your day. The reason my rates are where they are on a wedding season Saturday is that I’ll sure;y be booking a wedding at full rate for that day, so giving ‘discounts’ isn’t something I’m prepared to do. But on a day where I may not get a call for another wedding - yes, let’s talk!
