I love Black & White
I love the rawness of a great black & white image. Once you strip away the colour, I find emotions cut through better. Catching a face in a mirror, a peek of a smile, or just a bride and groom laughing at the head table, I find a strong black and white image can have more impact than one with colour. Also, if the colours are too wonky, due to DJ lights or various light sources during dinner, black and white can very quickly solve those issues.
For every wedding, I'll duplicate some of my favourite images and flip them to black and white, using two presets that I've carefully crafted for myself that fit right with my style of storytelling. Sometimes, I have so many within a collection, that I make them their own gallery. Here are about half of the ones I gave Kelly & Jeff from their wedding last season.
